The Bangladesh Bank (BB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of women small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in Bangladesh.
BB Joint Director Nawshad Mustafa and IFC Country Director Wendy J Werner signed the agreement at BB headquarters in the city on Wednesday.
The women entrepreneurs will be given technical assistance to develop credit guarantee scheme for SME under the project “Catalysing access to finance for women SME entrepreneurs in Bangladesh”.
BB Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury and World Bank Practice Manager Neeraj Verma were a;so present in the programme.
SK Sur said: “The proposed project is basically designed to provide technical assistance to SME and Special Programs Department (SPD) in order to develop a credit guarantee scheme for women entrepreneurs.
“The employees of SME and SPD will also get training.”
Awareness creation programme related to credit guarantee schemes for women entrepreneurs will also be conducted through the project, he added.
While addressing the programme, Werner thanked Bangladesh Bank for taking different initiatives to promote vulnerable women segment.
He also reassured the bank to work together for the development of women entrepreneurs.
