A three-day long international renewable energy technology exhibition and workshop kicked off in Dhaka on Sunday to promote renewable energy.

‘Renewable Energy Practitioners’ platform workshop, along with Renewable Energy Technology Exhibition, is taking place at the Sonargaon hotel.

The event will end on November 21, said Mahmood Malik, executive director and CEO of Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL).

It is being hosted by IDCOL, with support from German Development Cooperation through KfW. Nepal-based Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) is the event’s co-organiser.

Prime Minister’s Energy Affairs Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury inaugurated it.

“We have to be conscious about energy security. We can ensure efficient use of energy by adopting fuel efficient technologies,” he said. “This type of workshop and exhibition will help us. Now, we are considering increasing the use of renewable energy in every sector.”

The objective of the event is to create a platform for Renewable Energy Practitioners to exchange knowledge, ideas and address challenges through interactive discussions on various aspects of renewable energy.

Regulators, policymakers, financiers, renewable energy practitioners as well as businesses from various Asian countries will come together to explore contemporary issues related to renewable energy and enhance collaboration during the conference.

About 50 international participants from 15 countries and 80 local participants are taking part in the workshop.

Apart from them, about 35 stalls from local and international manufacturers and suppliers of various renewable energy technologies are showcasing their products and services in the fair.

The exhibition is open for all from 9:30am to 8:30pm.
