PM inaugurates Digital World with robot Sophia

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the four-day Digital World, the biggest ICT exposition in Bangladesh, at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

The PM had a short conversion with robot Sophia, a humanoid robot and then inaugurated the exposition.

Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd is sponsoring the robot’s visit to Dhaka. The humanoid robot can chat, smile and even tell jokes.

The exposition with the slogan ‘Ready for Tomorrow’ is organized by ICT Division in collaboration with Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post, Telecom and Information Technology Ministry Imran Ahmed, BASIS President Mostafa Jabbar and Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division Subir Kishore Chowdhury were present at the inaugural session.

A good number of ministers from different countries, including Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, the Philippines, Congo and the Maldives, are attending the fifth edition of Digital World.

Over 200 spokespersons from top IT organizations, including Google and Nuans, will take part in various sessions of the exposition.

This year’s exhibition will be composed of various major expositions and notable elements like e-Governance Expo, Software Showcasing.

There will be more than 300 stalls and pavilions for IT exposition, 24 seminars, conferences and policy dialogues, ICT Career Camp which will occupy various zones and corners.
