Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today sued Jatiya Party lawmaker Mahjabeen Morshed in Chittagong for allegedly misappropriating around Tk 275 crore of Basic Bank.
A senior official of the ACC filed the case with Double Mooring Police Station in the port city against the MP (reserve seat for women), a source with the ACC said to media.
The case has been filed under section 409 and 420 of the 1947 Corruption Prevention Act 5(2).
Three more people have been accused in the case and of them, two are Basic bank officials.
Husband of the lawmaker, JP leader Morshed Murad Ibrahim has also been accused in the case.
Morshed is currently the vice chairmen of central executive committee of Jatiya Party and his wife Mahjabeen is an MP of reserved women seat (Woman seat – 45).
In one case, the JP MP has been made accused of misappropriating Tk 1.41 crore. The second case was filed against her husband Murad Ibrahim, managing director Crystal Steel and ship Breaking Ltd, for Tk embezzling 1.34 crore.
