100 held at Geneva camp over anti-drug drive

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained over 100 people during an anti-narcotics drive at Geneva camp in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Saturday.

RAB-2 battalion along with other units, including RAB Intelligence wing and dog squad, started the drive at Geneva camp, also known as Bihari camp, around 10:30am and it continued it till 12:40pm, said RAB’s headquarters’ legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmood Khan.

During the drive, the elite force members recovered a huge quantity of Yaba pills, hemp and other drugs.

The exact number of the arrestees and the quantity of illegal drugs would be ascertained later, he said.

RAB launched its own anti-narcotics operations on May 4. At least 63 people were killed in reported gunfights across country from then.
