Editors concerned over 6 articles of Digital Security Act

Editors' Council on Thursday expressed their deep concern over the six Articles of the Digital Security Act at a meeting with three ministers.

On the other hand, the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq has assured for an acceptable and timely legislation in this regard after discussing with all.

The meeting began around 12:00pm at the law ministry auditorium of the Secretariat in Dhaka and continued till 1:30pm.

Alongside the law minister, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, and State minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak were present at the meeting.

On behalf of the editors, the Daily Star Editor and the Council's General Secretary Mahfuz Anam expressed their deep concern over the Articles.

The leaders of the newspaper editors said the Articles 8, 21, 25, 29, 32, 43 of the Digital Security Act are contradictory to independent journalism. They also appealed for cancelling these Articles.

The council will sit with the parliamentary standing committee on post telecom and ICT ministry to present their concerns in writing, said the law minister.
