Eight killed, 20 injured in Panchagarh road accident

At least eight persons, including women and children, were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident at Doshmile Bazar point on the Panchagarh-Banglabandha Highway under Sadar upazila in Panchagarh district tonight.

However, identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

“The accident took place when a Banglabandha-bound bus of ‘Bhai-Bone Paribahan’ and a Panchagarh-bound electric pole-laden truck from Bhajanpur collided head-on around 7:45 pm, killing five passengers dead on the spot and 23 others injured,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchagarh Sadar Thana Abu Akkas Ahmad told FT.

Being informed, fire service and civil defence personnel from Panchagarh and Tentulia stations and police forces from Panchagarh Sadar Thana rushed to the spot, rescued all injured persons and sent them to Panchagarh Modernised Sadar Hospital (PSMH).

“Three of the injured passengers succumbed to their injuries at PSMH where 12 are now undergoing treatment as eight of the inured persons were released after providing primary aid,” said on-duty physician at PSMH Dr Monwarul Islam.

Conditions of seven of the inured persons were stated to be critical, Dr Islam added.

High officials of the Panchagarh district and police administrations and local public representatives visited the spot and PSMH and directed the physicians for providing the best possible treatments to the injured persons.

“The process of filing a case in this connection is in progress,” the OC informed the national news agency around 10:15 pm.
