FT ONLINE

Post, Telecommunication and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Tuesday said the government is taking necessary preparation to launch 5G service in the country.

"Government has taken different initiatives to take the ICT sector forward. All the unions and former enclaves across the country will be brought under internet connectivity within this year. Now the biggest challenge for us is to create employment for the educated but jobless people," he said.

Jabbar, an ICT pioneer himself, came up with the observations while addressing a press briefing at Janata Tower Software Technology Park in the capital, marking upcoming BPO Summit-2018.

The third Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Summit-2018 is scheduled to be held on April 15 and 16 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

Department of Information & Communication Technology and Bangladesh Association of Call Center & Outsourcing (BACCO) are organising the global summit, which is going to be inaugurated by Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed.

"Earlier we were a nation that used to import technological goods. But now we are producing such goods and also exporting those. This upcoming summit will play an important role in generating one lakh employment in BPO sector by 2021," Jabbar said.

Director General of Department of Information & Communication Technology AKM Khairul Alam and BACCO president Wahid Sharif addressed the briefing, among others.

Around 40 local and 20 global speakers are scheduled to address the two- day mega event, BPO summit, which will also hold 10 seminars and workshops.
