Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim said environment-friendly housing will be ensured across the country.
The minister said this while addressing a programme at Sagor-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Friday.
“We won’t let people’s lives fall in danger for corruption and irregularities in the housing sector. We've already ordered action against 62 officials accused in the FR Tower fire incident,” he said.Rezaul said 24 teams of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) found irregularities in 1,818 multistoried buildings in the capital.
“The buildings constructed in new Dhaka violating codes will have to be demolished and the buildings that can be protected with new technology will have to be renovated. The buildings that will defy the order will be sealed,” he added.
The minister urged journalists to write more about irregularities in the housing sector. “We want each and every building to have the fire-extinguishing system.”
