Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain stated on Thursday (April 23) that the measles situation in the country is gradually coming under control through collective efforts. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of 'National Nutrition Week-2026' at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, he mentioned that discussions are ongoing with doctors and a Chinese expert team to manage the situation.
During the event, the Minister emphasized the critical importance of infant nutrition, urging health workers to promote the message that there is no substitute for colostrum (mother’s first milk). Expressing concern over the declining trend of breastfeeding and the rise in cesarean deliveries, he noted that these factors weaken children's physical health. He called upon nutrition workers to conduct door-to-door campaigns to encourage mothers to breastfeed their children for their long-term well-being.
