Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government is giving around Tk53,000 crore in subsidies for diesel, power generation and other sectors.

She made the comment replying to a query at a news conference at her official Ganabhaban residence on Wednesday.

A journalist shot the question as the government recently hiked the diesel and kerosene price resulting in rise in transport cost.

The government was forced to increase the prices of diesel and kerosene due to the hike in the international market, she said.

People should be more rational as there is a limit to the government's capacity to give subsidies.
