Kakrail area in the capital has turned into a battleground as the activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) locked into a clash with the members of the law enforcement agencies this noon.
The clash erupted around 2pm, our correspondent reports from the spot.
To bring the situation under control, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh have joined the police.
A traffic police booth in Kakrail was also set on fire.
Earlier in the afternoon, there was an attack on a pick-up van carrying Awami League (AL) activists by a group of BNP men in front of Kakrail Mosque.
This incident escalated and turned the area into a battleground. The attackers vandalised the vehicle and then, carrying sticks, chased away the AL activists from the spot.
To disperse the BNP men, police fired tear gas shells and charged batons.
