The World Food Programme (WFP) has distributed emergency flood assistance among 6,500 worst affected people in the country’s southern region amid the ongoing deluge there.
Each family got Tk5,000 in anticipatory assistance from WFP to prepare for and recover better from the latest climate crisis, it said in a statement.
The UN’s food agency views the crisis since 29 May as yet another destructive result of climate change.
“The cash was dispatched just a few hours after the anticipatory action triggers were activated on 29 May,” it added.
Upon receiving the assistance, Anowara Begum, from Teknaf, said the cash handout would significantly help her recoup the losses from the flash floods.
