Australia launches new partnership plan, pledges continued support for BD

Australian Minister for International Development, Small Business and Multicultural Affairs Dr Anne Aly has reaffirmed Canberra’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s development and humanitarian efforts during her recent visit to the country.

According to a statement by the Australian High Commission in Dhaka, Minister Aly met with National Security Adviser and High Representative for the Rohingya issue Dr Khalilur Rahman, Adviser on Women and Children Affairs Sharmeen Murshid, and Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.

During her visit, Dr Aly launched the Australia–Bangladesh Development Partnership Plan 2025–2030, which outlines joint priorities for sustainable development and reflects Australia’s long-standing cooperation with Bangladesh.

She also travelled to Cox’s Bazar to observe ongoing projects supported by Australia as part of its response to the Rohingya crisis.

The minister reaffirmed Australia’s commitment of $370 million over three years to assist humanitarian efforts in Bangladesh and Myanmar, bringing the total support since 2017 to more than $1.26 billion.

Dr Aly also welcomed Bangladesh’s transition toward a democratic future and pledged continued collaboration to deepen bilateral ties, strengthen trade and investment, and address shared challenges across the Indian Ocean region.
