BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that efforts are underway to erase the history of the Liberation War from the nation’s memory.
He said, “It seems as though we did nothing for the country, while all credit is being given to the movement of 2024. We may not forget 2024, but we can never forget the thousands who were killed in 1971.”
He made the remarks on Monday morning while addressing a views-exchange meeting with freedom fighters and their descendants at the Thakurgaon District Freedom Fighters Complex.
Fakhrul claimed that a section of people who once collaborated with the Pakistan army during the Liberation War is now trying to dominate the country again by exploiting the religious sentiments of the Muslim community.
Regarding the election, the BNP leader alleged that there was a conspiracy to derail the upcoming polls, warning that any delay in the election would bring disaster to the nation.
Freedom Fighters’ Central Command Council convener Naeem Jahangir, local freedom fighter commanders, and district BNP leaders were also present.
