Describing the attack on Inquilab Mancha's spokesperson and potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, Sharif Osman Hadi, as part of a conspiracy to sabotage the July uprising, political party leaders said that the political parties are united to thwart all attempts to derail this uprising.
At a meeting held today at the state guest house Jamuna under the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizens Party (NCP) expressed this commitment.
At the meeting, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Hafizuddin Ahmed; Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Perwar and Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, NCP convener Nahid Islam and South Region chief organizer Hasanat Abdullah, Inqilab Mancha's member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, and legal advisor Asif Nazrul participated.
At the meeting, the chief advisor said the attack on Osman Hadi was premeditated and part of a deep conspiracy; a powerful force is behind it.
He said the conspirators' objective is to prevent the election from taking place. This attack is highly symbolic. They want to demonstrate their strength and derail all election preparations. These must be confronted unitedly.
He said, “Based on the information received so far, it appears the conspirators have expanded their network. They have taken to the field with trained shooters.”
At the meeting, political parties decided to hold an all-party protest meeting in response to the heinous attack on Osman Hadi, an initiative of the Inquilab Mancha. The meeting will be held within the next day or two.
Leaders of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and NCP believe that communication between political parties needs to be increased to prevent a rift in the anti-fascist political alliance. They stated that the parties will take a firm stance on this matter.
Additionally, political leaders have stressed the need to conduct a strict operation to recover illegal weapons before the election.
BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed said, “In this situation, we must remain united. We must refrain from blaming each other under any circumstances.”
He said, “We must raise our voices unitedly against the conspiracy. We will not tolerate any kind of evil force.”
He added that no matter how much political differences we may have, we must remain united for the sake of the nation and for the sake of July.
He urged strengthening the campaign against conspirators and the recovery of illegal weapons.
Jamaat leader Golam Parwar said, “Recently, our various statements have increased the tendency to blame each other, which has given our opponents an opportunity. We must remain united as we were before.”
He said, “For petty party interests, we have turned each other into adversaries. Why would we say things that divide the nation? All parties must clarify their commitments.”
NCP chief Nahid Islam said that since the July uprising, some people have been carrying out various malicious activities to undermine it.
He said, “An organized campaign is underway against July. This is happening at various levels of the media and administration. Whoever comes to power after the election will also be a victim of this. No one will be able to run the government alone.”
He said, "A narrative is being created in the media and on social media about the July uprising to make it seem as if those who carried out the uprising are criminals. Various attempts are being made to normalize the Awami League and the National Party. They are regularly participating in TV talk shows, holding meetings in different parts of the administration, gathering at universities, and chanting slogans in court premises.
'We don't need any special security. We won't take it. We all have to own July. In this tug-of-war over what to call July, we are destroying July. The conspirators see our disunity as our defeat. They are sitting in India doing whatever they want, and we can't do anything," he said.
Nahid Islam added, ‘We must stop those who are implementing the Awami League's objectives in the guise of intellectuals and cultural workers. Action must be taken on this matter.’
Hasnat Abdullah said, 'No security will be of any use to us if we cannot remain united ourselves. For political gain, parties are creating various opportunities for the Awami League.'
The Chief Adviser said, “We have to think about what we can do for the future.”
He said that not just the government, but everyone needs to be strong. We must be careful to prevent conflicts from spreading among ourselves. There will be political statements, but we must move away from the culture of viewing anyone as an enemy or attacking them.
“There is excitement during an election, but we must keep in mind that it has to be controlled within a certain limit,” he said.
Asif Nazrul said that the Awami League has grown stronger ever since infighting began among political parties.
Calling on political parties to remain united, he said, “You must be vigilant not only about your party's interests but also about the national interest.”
