On Wednesday (April 1), JSD President A.S.M. Abdur Rob issued a stern warning to the government, stating that deviating from the commitment to hold a referendum for implementing the "National Charter" would be a betrayal of the blood-stained July uprising.
He described the pledge as a "Social Contract" between the state and its people, asserting that the legitimacy of the government must stem from direct public consent rather than mere administrative processes. Rob emphasized that bypassing the referendum would institutionalize "internal subjugation" and lead to a massive crisis of public confidence.
He urged the government to honor its political integrity by upholding the spirit of the July Revolution and ensuring that the collective aspirations of the working and professional classes are reflected through a direct mandate from the people.
