On Thursday (April 2), the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced a significant hike in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices at the consumer level.

The price of a standard 12kg LPG cylinder has been increased by Tk 387, raising the cost to Tk 1,728 from March's price of Tk 1,341. BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed confirmed the new rates during a press briefing, citing the volatile international energy market and the ongoing Middle East conflict as primary reasons for the surge.

The price hike covers all cylinder sizes, ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg, and takes effect immediately. This sharp increase is expected to put further financial strain on households, especially as it coincides with a period of heightened demand and existing inflation.
