Attempt to Brand Grieving Parents as Extortionists Over Child Tasnim’s Death at Hatirjheel

While the extreme negligence of the building owners in the tragic death of child Tasnim—who fell into an unprotected elevator shaft at an under-construction building in Hatirjheel—has become as clear as daylight, shocking and inhumane allegations have now surfaced.

Instead of standing beside the grief-stricken parents who lost their child, the building owners are allegedly trying to frame them with false accusations of theft and extortion.

Not only that, they are reportedly desperate to secure the release of the arrested accused from jail. According to the victim’s family, the local police are shamelessly encouraging and supporting the influential owners in this entire conspiracy.

It has been learned that building owner Shakhawat Hossain Nayan used his sister, Mosammat Afroza Khanam, to file a harassing written complaint at Hatirjheel Police Station. The parents of deceased Tasnim claim that the police hastily took the absurd complaint into consideration and even launched an investigation.

A Mountain of False Allegations: The Fabricated Story of Stealing 6 Tons of Rods and 150 Bags of Cement

In a written complaint submitted to Hatirjheel Police Station, Tasnim’s father Liton (49) and mother Mitu Begum (32) were made the primary accused. The complaint alleged that Liton and Mitu entered the building with 10–12 terrorists and demanded extortion money. When they failed to receive the money, they allegedly looted 6 tons of steel rods, 150 bags of cement, stones, motors, and other construction materials worth 500,000 taka from the under-construction building. Altogether, the complaint claimed the accused caused damages worth nearly 2 million taka to the owners.

This has raised the biggest question among the public: how could a poor tailor, who had just lost his child, hire 10–12 terrorists? And how could such a massive quantity of materials—6 tons of rods and 150 bags of cement—be loaded onto trucks in a crowded area without anyone noticing? Could an ordinary tailor truly be influential enough to extort a wealthy building owner?

According to locals, this is nothing more than a completely fabricated drama staged by the owners to pressure the grieving family.

Afroza’s Arrogance Captured in Audio

When our reporter contacted Afroza Khanam for details, she reportedly showed no remorse and instead arrogantly blamed the victim’s family.

In an audio recordings, Afroza can allegedly be heard openly admitting that she is trying desperately to save the accused currently in jail rather than accepting responsibility for Tasnim’s death.

She told the journalist, “The boy is helpless… if you hear him crying, you will become restless. He has lawyers, brother, but we still cannot get him released. It’s already been two months that he has been suffering in jail.”

While Tasnim’s tragic death has devastated an entire family, the owners reportedly showed no sympathy toward the grieving parents. Instead, Afroza seemed more distressed about failing to free the employee imprisoned due to their negligence.

Calling the grieving parents “bad people,” Afroza further said arrogantly, “That girl (Tasnim) fell into the elevator and died—Allah knows, brother… and now those people are demanding money from us to harass us. We will never give them money. We will see this through to the end… after it has gone this far, there will be no settlement.”

Mysterious Role of Police

The most disturbing issue, according to the victim’s family, is the role of the local police. They allege that instead of properly investigating the incident or listening to the cries of the grieving parents, the police are entertaining the fabricated theft allegations made by the influential owners. Such biased behavior has left the victim’s family in extreme insecurity.

However, when contacted, Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman said: “The land owner of that constructing building filed a complaint. We are investigating. Why these names were mentioned and who is behind this must be determined through detailed investigation. One of our officers visited the scene. The matter is still not clear. Surely there is something there.”

Names of Influential Figures Emerging

The Finance Today's own investigation into this tragic death has uncovered the names of several influential figures behind the incident. We will gradually reveal evidence regarding their involvement.

In particular, evidence has reportedly been found against building owner Shakhawat Hossain Nayan, his sister Afroza Khanam, Abul Kalam, Hanif Saudagar, Khasru Bhuiyan, Alam and his wife, Rafik, and several others.

Very soon, all alleged irregularities and activities of building owner Shakhawat Hossain Nayan will be exposed with evidence. He has even reportedly shown the audacity to question journalists investigating the matter.

Conclusion

The dirty game being played to avoid responsibility for Tasnim’s death, save the accused, and harass the victim’s family constitutes a gross violation of human rights.

Civil society members and human rights activists are demanding that the fabricated allegations be dismissed immediately, the conspiracy of influential individuals be stopped, and exemplary legal action be taken against the building owners over Tasnim’s death. Otherwise, an innocent and grieving family seeking justice may be permanently crushed under the weight of power and influence.
