The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a petition seeking an Interpol ‘Red Notice’ against former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his wife Rukmila Zaman.

The application was placed on Thursday before the court of Acting Senior Metropolitan Special Judge Abdur Rahman in Chattogram.

ACC Public Prosecutor Advocate Mokarram Hossain confirmed the development, saying the petition was filed in connection with multiple corruption cases against the couple. The court fixed next Sunday for hearing on the matter.

The ACC began investigating Saifuzzaman and his wife during the tenure of the previous Awami League government. Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s administration amid student and public protests on 5 August 2024, the probe was assigned to ACC Deputy Director Mashiur Rahman.

On 17 April this year, a case was filed against the couple over a loan fraud worth Tk20 crore. Subsequently, the court ordered the seizure of their immovable properties, including 343 in the United Kingdom, 228 in the United Arab Emirates, and nine in the United States, along with other assets abroad.

Earlier, on 5 March, the court froze 39 bank accounts belonging to Saifuzzaman and his wife, which collectively held over Tk5.26 crore. Additionally, orders were issued to confiscate shares worth Tk102 crore and 957 bighas of land in their names.

On 7 October 2024, the court had also imposed a travel ban on the couple.
