20 Engineers Recognized for Pioneering Climate Resilience Ideas

The ‘LGED Adaptation Award 2024’ was organized by the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CReLIC) under the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming (CRIM) project on Wednesday at the Kamrul Islam Siddique Auditorium of LGED Headquarters.

The objective of this event was to bring climate resilient knowledge into the mainstream by streamlining it. To recognize and reward engineers by disseminating climate-resilient innovative ideas and best practices. To find opportunities to share experiences by creating and stimulating their interest in climate change adaptation.

A total of 34 participants from LGED Headquarters and field level submitted papers on 3 topics in the competition. An evaluation committee was formed with representatives from LGED, development partners and other departments and awards were given in 3 categories, namely, Innovative Ideas (9), Lessons Learned (5) and Best Practice (6).

LGED Additional Chief Engineer and Director of CReLIC, Kazi Golam Mustafa, delivered the welcome speech at the event.

He said that if CReLIC is established as a knowledge hub in LGED, it will act as a "Centre of Excellence", which will become a complete knowledge repository on climate change for LGED. Through this, LGED's knowledge and experience will be preserved, managed and made accessible to all in an institutional and well-organized manner, which will be helpful in project planning and implementation and increase the efficiency of the organization.

Additional Chief Engineer Md. Belal Hossain was present at the event. LGED Chief Engineer Mr. Javed Karim presided over the event and distributed crests, certificates and prize money among the winners.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Engineer said that young and experienced engineers will work as a complement to each other in solving climate change-related problems. Experienced engineers will be able to create sustainable projects by turning new ideas into reality through their knowledge, experience and skills in climate issues. These timely innovations should be included in the preparation of new projects.

Md. Touhidur Rahman Portfolio Coordinator of KfW a development partner spoke at the event. Md. Abdul Khalek Project Director of CRIMP-CReLIC, Md. Latif Hossain Executive Engineer and Senior Assistant Engineer Fatema Ismat Ara greeted the president and special guests with flowers and honorary crests.

The event was hosted by LGED Senior Assistant Engineer Partha Kumar Sarkar and Assistant Engineer Afifa Sultana Pritul. Syed Mahabub Ahsan and GM Khairul Islam was responsible for the overall idea and organization of this competition on behalf of the CReLIC IDC team.
