BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit the Khulna division on Monday, where he will address an electoral public rally as the chief guest.

The rally, organised by the Khulna Metropolitan and District units of the BNP, will be held at the Khalishpur Prabhati School ground in the city.

Ahead of Tarique Rahman’s arrival after a gap of 22 years, party leaders and activists have been gathering at the rally venue since early morning in small processions. Many supporters from distant areas arrived in Khulna on Sunday night to attend the event.

Khulna Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin said that Tarique Rahman will arrive in Khulna by helicopter at around 11:00 a.m. He is scheduled to deliver his keynote speech at the rally at 12:00 noon. After concluding the programme, he will leave Khulna at 1:00 p.m. by helicopter for Jessore. Party leaders expect spontaneous participation of millions of people at the rally.

The public meeting will be presided over by Khulna Metropolitan BNP President Shafiqul Alam Mona. Fourteen parliamentary candidates from greater Khulna, along with central party leaders, are expected to deliver directive speeches during the event.

Meanwhile, the Khulna Metropolitan Police have taken extensive security measures in connection with Tarique Rahman’s visit. A three-tier security system has been implemented in and around the Khalishpur Prabhati School ground to maintain law and order.

Police officials said that security has been reinforced along Tarique Rahman’s travel routes as well as inside and outside the rally venue. The security deployment includes uniformed police, intelligence personnel, and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Army, and the Navy. Police check posts have also been set up at key entry points to the city.
