Bogura declared 13th city corporation as PM unveils plaque

Bogura Municipality has officially been upgraded to a city corporation, coinciding with its 150th anniversary.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated Bogura as the country’s 13th city corporation by unveiling a commemorative plaque at the municipal building at around 12:00pm on Monday.

With the upgrade, Bogura joins the existing 12 city corporations—Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh.

The plaque unveiling ceremony was attended by Local Government Minister Mir Shah Alam, Bogura-6 MP Rezaul Karim Badsha, Local Government Secretary Shahidul Hasan, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and Bogura Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman, along with other senior officials.

Earlier at 11:20am, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated an e-bail bond service and the newly constructed Bogura District Advocates Bar Association building at the Bogura District Judge's Court.

In the second half of the day, he will inaugurate several development projects in Gabtoli upazila. These include canal excavation works, distribution of family cards, and the launch of a measles-rubella vaccination campaign.

Earlier in the morning, he arrived at the Bogura Circuit House at around 9:55am after travelling by road from his residence in Dhaka.

As part of the concluding events of the visit, Prime Minister Rahman will address a large public rally organised by the Bogura district BNP at the historic Altafunnesa Playground at 4:00pm.

Before returning to Dhaka, he is also expected to inaugurate the new building of the Bogura Press Club and the reconstruction work of the Baitur Rahman Central Mosque.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit his ancestral home and return to the city later in the afternoon.
