2pc more GDP growth if corruption prevented: DG ACC

Director General (Prevention) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mahmud Hasan has said the gross domestic product (GDP) could increase by 2% if corruption was prevented.

“To ultimately build a corruption-free society, we should bring up our children properly. It will be more effective to infuse good moral values in them by having teachers recite a sentence about morality, daily, at the beginning of classes,” he said.

Hasan made these observations as the guest of honour  at a views-sharing meeting entitled, “Corruption Prevention Issues.” It was held by the district administration at the deputy commissioner’s conference room on Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib was present as the chair. The heads of different government departments, teachers, members of the district corruption prevention committee, civil society members, and socio-cultural activists also attended the meeting.

Acting president of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its city unit President Shafiur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director of Rangpur District Combined Office of ACC Mozahar Ali Sarder, addressed the meeting as special guests.

In their speeches, the participants forwarded suggestions to form “integrity units” and set up a “Satota store” in every school so that the young generation can “practice honesty from their childhood—to become good citizens.”

The Deputy Commissioner called upon government officials and employees to properly render services to the common people.

The chief guest stressed that the anti-corruption campaign should start from within one’s own home; to bring up the next generation with human virtues, qualities, and patriotic zeal; “to turn them into complete human beings who will build a corruption-free society.”

“It is not possible to build an honest nation without honest people; let us conduct our duties properly to leave a better Bangladesh to  future generations,” he said.
