BR starts transporting sacrificial animals


Bangladesh Railway has started transporting sacrificial animals through freight trains ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The first freight train with 261 sacrificial animals started from Jamalpur at 8:30 pm on Tuesday and reached Dhaka  on Wednesday morning,  said Shariful Alam, Public Relations Officer of the Railways Ministry.

The process has been started and it will continue based on demand, he added.

Earlier on July 7, Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said that Bangladesh Railway has decided to launch wagon services to transport sacrificial animals for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha from one part of the country to another where railway network is available following the demand of businesspeople.

The maximum charge of transporting each animal is fixed at 2,500 from Gaibandha, Pabna and Kushtia to Chattogram while to Dhaka the maximum rate will be Tk 1,500-2,000, said the minister.
