Court imposes travel ban on top officials of Gemcon Group, United Group

A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on four people, including Gemcon Group Director Kazi Inam Ahmed and Founder and former chairman of United Group and Neptune Housing Limited Hasan Mahmood Raja, alias Raja Mia, over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The two others who face travel restrictions are-- Chairman and Managing Director of United Group Moin Uddin Hasan Raja, and former managing director of Neptune Housing Limited Abul Kalam Azad.

According to the petitions filed against Inam, the accused allegedly acquired assets worth Tk32.66 crore beyond known sources of income and laundered Tk74.78 crore through 14 bank accounts.

The ACC sought the travel ban to restrict him from fleeing abroad, which could hamper the probe.

According to the petition against Hasan Mahmud Raja, Moin Uddin Hasan Raja, and Abul Kalam Azad, an investigation is ongoing against 12 persons over illegal occupation of government vested property using forged documents, amassing illegal wealth, money laundering, and irregularities in gas supply at IPP rates involving United Power Generation and Distribution Company Limited.

Therefore, a travel ban against the accused is needed to ensure proper investigation and justice, as the accused are attempting to flee abroad.
