36 farmers from the marginalized groups are selected from the COAST Foundations’ working area in different districts through a preliminary screening.
A grant of 900,000 Taka (USD 7,690) is directly handed to each of the farmers by the bank for purchasing agricultural machinery.
Naruddin, the Managing Director of Southeast Bank, Md. Chadek Hossain, DMD, and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Executive Director of Coast Foundation, and Mustafa Kamal Akand, Director Admin & SR were present at the grant distribution event held at Southeast Bank's head office.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said in his speech that the rising cost of agricultural production is discouraging farmers from continuing their work, which is a threat to the country's food security. Therefore, besides various mechanical facilities in agriculture, subsidies on electricity, fertilizer and diesel should also be increased.
He also said, that if all institutions come forward as part of their social responsibility, the country's agricultural sector will be more prosperous.
