BGMEA opens control room, hotline to tackle coronavirus

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has taken a number of steps in the wake of three coronavirus infections detected in the country.

It opened a control room and a hotline on Monday.

The control room has been opened at the BGMEA headquarters in the capital's Uttara, said its President Rubana Huq.

Staff at the control room include nurses and medical assistants, and they will work in two shifts from 7am to 9pm.

The BGMEA has requested its members to communicate with hospitals through the control room.

It has formed four teams in different areas of Dhaka to respond to emergency coronavirus situations.

The BGMEA will also build awareness about the virus through occupational health and safety committees of the factories.

It will distribute government leaflets containing information on coronavirus and preventive measures.

Doctors will be on standby at 10 BGMEA health centres to provide emergency healthcare services.
