COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 34 deaths, 1,988 new cases


Bangladesh registered 34 Covid-19 deaths in the 24 hours till 8:00am on Wednesday, according to a release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.

With the new deaths, the Covid-19 fatalities rose to 12,694 in the country.

Besides, 1,988 people tested positive for the virus during the same period taking the caseloads to 8,04,293.

Among the latest day's victims, 21 were men, and 13 were women. All of the victims died in different hospitals across the country. 

Moreover, 11 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka division, five each from Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna, two each from Sylhet and Rangpur and two died from Barishal division. 

Also, 1,914 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with a 92.51% recovery rate. The toll of recoveries now rose to 7,44,065.

The rate of positivity now stands at 9.81 percent for the last 24 hours while the mortality rate is 1.58 percent.

The government on May 30 extended the Covid-19 lockdown till June 6 as part of the initiatives to curb a second wave of the pandemic.
