ACC to interrogate two MPs on wealth charge

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday asked two members of parliament (MP) to appear for interrogation over the allegation of acquiring illegal wealth.

ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told newsmen that the two MPs are Kamrul Ashraf Khan of Narsingdi 2 and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman of Khulna 2.

According to the notice, independent lawmaker Kamrul will face the interrogation on April 10 while Awami League MP Mizanur will have to appear at the ACC head office on April 16.

The owner of Poton Traders, Kamrul allegedly earned illegal wealth by embezzling government fertilizer. ACC Deputy Director Ekramur Reza is investigating the allegation against him.

Chairman of Bangladesh Fertilizer Association for the second time, Kamrul was asked to be present with certified copies of various business documents.

On August 25, 2017, the ACC had summoned Kamrul for the first time.

On the other hand, the anti-graft watchdog decided to launch an investigation against ruling party leader Mizanur over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth on March 8.

Mizanur allegedly misused his power in Khulna City Corporation and other government offices in his constituency to secure work orders in for his family members.

ACC Deputy Director Manzur Morshed is investigating this complaint.
