Biman catering staff arrested with 8kg smuggled gold


Customs intelligence arrested a staff of catering service of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines along with 8kg smuggled gold.

Md Sanwarul Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Customs House Dhaka, said the gold was recovered from shirt, pant and other places of the body of the staff named Md Abdul Aziz Akhando Wednesday night.

The careering centre of Biman Bangladesh is located at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Tipped-off, the customs officials of Dhaka tried to enter the catering centre of the national carrier but they faced resistance.

Although customs officials managed to enter the catering centre, they did not get the gold. But they were adamant to succeed in the operation.

After seven hours of frantic effort, Md Abdul Aziz Akhando was apprehended from in front of the gate of the catering. His body was searched and gold recovered therefrom.

Preventive Unit of the Customs House received information that a staff of catering service will smuggle gold. The officials tried to enter catering service through two gates but faced resistance.

With the help of intelligence, customs officials finally entered the centre but came to know that suspect Abdul Aziz left the place at 1:49 pm.

However, customs officials were not convinced and laid a trap. As suspect Aziz came out of the catering gate, he was arrested.
