Suspicious transaction, activity rise by 65p in FY23: BFIU


Suspicious transaction reports (STR) and suspicious activity reports (SAR) in banks have increased by 64.58% year-on-year to 14,106, according to the annual report of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).

The data on suspicious transactions and activities was incorporated into the annual report of the BFIU.

The anti-money laundering agency released the FY 2022–23 annual report in a views exchange meeting with journalists at the Bangladesh Bank head office in the capital on Tuesday.

BFIU head Md Masud Biswas presided over the event while additional Director Kamal Hossain presented the keynote. 

In fiscal 2021-22, the BFIU received 8,571 STR and SAR from reporting agencies. In FY 2020-21, the total number of STR and SAR was 5,280. In FY 2019-20 it was 3,675. In FY 2018-19 it was 3,573.
