2 killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’


Two people were killed in separate 'gunfights' in Maheshkhali and Teknaf upazilas of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

In Maheshkhali, a suspected terrorist was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Shaplar Deba area early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Karim Prokash, alias Mahmud Karim, son of Yusuf Ali and an accused in several cases, including that of murder and robbery.

On information, police conducted a drive in the area in the early morning, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station.

Sensing the presence of police, the ‘terrorists’ opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, police recovered the body of Karim from the spot.
In Teknaf, a man was killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Hrila union early Sunday.

The deceased, Imran Prokash alias Puthia Mistri, is a drug trader, police claimed.
