Dr Akash suicide: Police press charges against wife Mitu, 4 others

Police on Wednesday pressed charges against Tanzila Haq Chowdhury Mitu and four others in a case filed for instigating the suicide of her husband Dr Mustafa Murshed Akash. 

The other accused are Mitu’s father Anisul Haque Chowdhury, her mother Shamima Sheli, her sister Sanzila Haq Chowdhury and her ‘friend’ Dr Mahbubul Alam. 

Md Quamruzzaman, deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said the charge-sheet was submitted before the court.

Earlier, Mitu was released from Chattogram Jail on September 5 as the High Court granted her permanent bail. 

Akash, 33, reportedly killed himself in Chandgaon residential area of the city in the early hours of February 1 last after an altercation with his wife Mitu about her alleged illicit affairs.

On the same day, police arrested Mitu over the suicide.

Family members said before his apparent suicide, Akash had shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile and wrote about her alleged extramarital affairs before announcing his decision to end own life.

Akash's mother Jobeda Khanam filed a case with Chandgaon Police Station accusing Mitu, Mitu's father Anisul Haque Chowdhury and mother Shamim Shelly, sister Sanzila Haque Chowdhury, her alleged boyfriends Mahbubul Haque and an Indian citizen Uttam Patel.
