Civil servants not required to submit separate accounts of their assets to NBR: Cabinet secy

The government employees will no longer have to attach separate accounts of their assets for submission to the government, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam has said.

He said the public administration ministry will submit a one-page statement of assets at the time of filing tax returns, every year, on behalf of public employees.

On Sunday, a meeting of the National Implementation Committee (NICA) and the ‘secretary committee meeting’ were held at the Prime Minister’s Office regarding administrative restructuring. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over both the meetings.

Later, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam briefed journalists on the outcomes of the meetings at the Secretariat.

He said he discussed the matter with the National Board of Revenue NBR and the Public Administration ministry.

“I told them there is no need to submit separate asset accounts to the NBR. Every year in the return that we put forward, we have to cite property accounts in one page, and we will submit that page to the public administration ministry for keeping records,” he added.

The Cabinet Secretary said NBR has given no objection to this proposal. The decision awaits gazette notification.
