Payra Seaport to host largest ships: Chairman Rear Admiral Sohail

Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, Chairman of Payra Sea Port Authority, made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting between the port authority, port users and stakeholders in Dhaka on Sunday.

“By March 15, we (Payra) will host 45,000mt ships which are bigger than hosted by Chittagong and Mongla ports. Payra Seaport will represent the next Bangladesh,” he said.

Calling upon businessmen to use Payra port, he stated, “1,500 acres of land are being made prepared for economic zones. The port is set to have separate cargo handling in line with modern foreign ports.”

“There will be an airport in the port area to facilitate movement of businessmen and shipment of goods. It will also have one-stop service bringing customs and other facilities under one umbrella,” Payra Sea Port Authority chairman said.

He added, “The port will be enriched with multimodal connectivity. This will provide better services at lower cost.”

“Payra port will not only be the economic icon for Bangladesh but also the South Asian region due to its geographic location,” he opined.

Capt SM Sarifur Rahman, Harbour Master of Payra Port Authority, focused on the port’s easy gateway to the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf and other waterways.

“Largest fleets can be anchored at the Payra Port. Use of this port is more viable than others due to rich logistic support and low cost,” he said.

Chief Hydrographer of the port Commander Mahmudul Hasan Khan said, “Payra is the only port which is getting the biggest channel in the country and multimodal connectivity with Dhaka and other parts of the country.

Md Atiqul Islam, Director (Traffic) of Payra Port Authority, showing business value chain said users of this port will enjoy 20-30 percent tariff rebate on average.

In his welcome address, Capt Zahid Hossain, Payra Port Member (Operation), urged the businessmen and vessel owners to use the port for its low cost and other convenience.
