Bangladesh receives over $1,400m remittance in May

Expatriate Bangladeshis have sent US$1,482.85 million remittance in May this year, which are $215.24 million above than the same month of 2017 and $151.52 million above than the previous month in this year.

The country received $1,267.61 million remittance in May, 2017 and $1331.33 million in April 2018.

In the eleven months of the current 2017-18 financial year (FY18), the country received a total of $13,575.18 million remittance while total inflow of the remittance for the eleven months was $11,554.84 million last fiscal.

The data also showed that Bangladeshi expatriates used more private banking channels for sending $1,097.57 million remittance on May.

Six state-owned commercial banks– Agrani, Janata, Rupali, Sonali, Basic and BDBL– received $359.60 million while one state-owned specialised bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, received $12.27 million.

Of the state-owned banks, Agrani Bank received $143.23 million, Janata Bank $86.75 million, Rupali Bank $18.83 million, Sonali Bank $110.57 million and Basic Bank $0.22 million.

Besides, the expatriates have sent $13.41 million through foreign commercial banks. Among the private commercial banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) received the highest amount of $284.25 million as Dutch-Bangla Bank (DBBL) received $87.98 million.
