Discussions with the IMF are ongoing, the government may not agree on all conditions: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated on Sunday, April 19, 2026, that the current democratic government may not agree with all the conditions previously set by the IMF.

Speaking at the Secretariat, he emphasized that as an elected government, their decisions must prioritize national interests alongside global mandates.

He noted significant progress in talks with the World Bank and ADB, confirming that the presidents of both organizations are expected to visit Bangladesh soon.

Addressing the recent fuel price hike, the Minister argued that the increase is modest compared to global trends, such as in the US, and highlighted that social safety net programs like "Family Cards" have received international praise.
