NBR gets Tk 3.11b tax on fifth day of fair

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) bagged Tk 3.11 billion in tax on Monday, the fifth day of the ongoing countrywide Income Tax Fair 2019, according to an official statement.
The NBR earned Tk 16.58 billion in the first five days of the weeklong fair. The fair will continue until tomorrow (Wednesday) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
A total of 1,00,200 people submitted their tax returns on the day, taking the total number of tax returns submitted in five days to 420,765.
Long queues of service recipients were seen at the tax fair, being held at Officers' Club in the capital's Bailey Road area, on Monday.
The NBR officials said the fair was abuzz with visitors and taxpayers, as they got a huge response from them.
Five former chairmen of the NBR - Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid, Dr. Zakir Ahmed Khan, Nasiruddin Ahmed and Md Ghulam Hussain - visited the fair in Dhaka on Monday. They also exchanged views with the officials.
On the fifth day, some 2,90,834 people received different tax-related services, including e-TIN (electronic taxpayer identification number) registration, submission of tax returns, and payment of tax, from the fair across the country.
Besides, 4,965 people received e-TIN on the day, the NBR officials informed.
Taxpayers paid Tk 23.6 million through e-payment in the last five days.
The NBR has been arranging the fair since 2010 for providing individuals with various facilities like having TIN, submitting tax returns, and paying tax in a hassle-free environment.
This year, the income tax fair is being held in 120 places across the country. Tax fair at district-level and Upazila-level is being held for four days and two days respectively.
The last date of income tax return submission is November 30.
