A business delegation from the United States on Tuesday suggested branding Cox's Bazar's local products as "Made in Cox's Bazar".

The suggestion came up at a meeting held among Cox's Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry members, local small and medium entrepreneurs, and the 12-member US delegation led by Steve Rose at a hotel in the southern coastal city.

Cox's Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cox's Bazar CSO-NGO Forum jointly organised the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Steve said Cox's Bazar has many potential industries and there are many women entrepreneurs in this district.

"Cox's Bazar beaches and sea fish can be used more. We want Cox's Bazar products to be known and exported under the 'Made in Cox's Bazar' brand," he said.

The US official said, "We have heard about your [local entrepreneurs] business activities and plans. This is the first businessmen initiative between the two countries and we are interested in working with Cox's Bazar traders based on discussions."

Sayeman Beach Resort Vice President Sabedur Rahman said Cox's Bazar could be the main centre of business.

Local entrepreneur Lutfunnahar Bappi said, "If we get technical support, we will be able to expand our business further."

Cox's Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry governing body member M Abed Ahsan and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Cox's Bazar CSO-NGO Forum co-chairman and executive director Coast Trust, spoke at the programme among others.
