Speaker emphasizes innovative solutions for hampered education sector

Speaker of Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that if the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic is prolonged, innovative solutions must be found to move the disrupted education sector forward.

Emphasising on innovative solutions, she said, “Global Partnership for Education could play an important role in reviving and normalizing the global education activities in Corona and here in Bangladesh, as in the rest of the world, educational activities have been disrupted by Corona’s adverse reaction.”

She was speaking at the Virtual Global Education Summit titled High Level Round Table for Parliamentarians on Education Financing last night, said a press release today.

The programme was jointly organized by the CPA and the International Parliamentary Network for Education.

The Speaker said that in this age of globalization, no one will lag behind in pursuing the agenda of sustainable development goals. Everyone should try to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic from having an adverse effect on the education sector, she added.

The Speaker said it was a big challenge for the MPs to find ways to keep marginalized, backward and poor students involved in education, especially by keeping girl students away from child marriage and child labor.

“The stipend can be extended so that the Covid-19 epidemic does not increase the dropout rate of children. In the meantime, the Government of Bangladesh has proposed to increase the financial allocation in the stipend sector in the budget of FY 2021-22,” she said.

Prominent personalities from different parts of the world were virtually involved in the event.
