BSB Global chief Khairul ‘assaulted’ at court
BSB Global Network chairman Khairul Bashar Bahar, who has been arrested in hundreds of cases, including money laundering and embezzlement charges, was allegedly assaulted while being escorted to the courtroom by police on Tuesday.
The scuffles erupted on the third floor of the new Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court building as he was being taken to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman’s court for a bail hearing.
Earlier, Bashar filed bail petitions in 99 cases, of which the court granted bail in 14, confirmed Bench Assistant Parvez Ahmed. After the proceedings, he was taken back into court custody.
On the day, Bashar was produced before the court amid tight security and brought in through an alternative route instead of the main passage for security reasons.
As Bashar reached the courtroom door, several complainants allegedly attacked him, prompting police to intervene and escort him inside. Some also reportedly threw shoes at him.
Confirming the incident, Zahidul Islam, in-charge of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court lockup, said one police member was injured during the scuffle. A person was detained but later released.
Earlier on 15 July, Khairul Bashar was physically assaulted by aggrieved individuals who alleged he had taken money from them under the pretext of sending people abroad.
He was arrested on 14 July from the ground floor of a building on Road No. 4 in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.
Mentionable, Bashar and his associates allegedly embezzled over Tk53 crore from around 448 victims and are reportedly part of an organised fraud ring involved in money laundering.
