Normalcy returns to CU as BCL faction withdraws blockade


Academic and administrative activities of Chittagong University returned to normalcy on Monday with the withdrawal of a blockade programme enforced by a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Shahriar Sourav, former vice president of BCL and leader of Bijoy group, said they decided to withdraw the blockade upon assurance from acting Vice-Chancellor Pror Dr Shirin Akhter on Sunday night.

BCL faction ‘Bijoy Group’ called a blockade on the campus demanding expulsion  of Rezaul Haque Rubel, leader of CFC Group.

Acting VC Prof Dr Shirin Akhter told journalists that the allegations of the students will be investigated.

Refusing the allegation of occupying university’s residential halls, the acting VC said academic activities of the university will continue smoothly.

Thousands of students suffered on Sunday as the shuttle train service was halted centering a series of factional clashes of BCL that started on Saturday night.

The situation was brought under control around 5 pm on Sunday and additional forces were deployed on the campus to fend off any untoward situation.
