Education minister issues strict message to VCs

Education Minister Dipu Moni on Monday issued a stern warning to the vice-chancellors of different public universities following rises of allegations of different irregularities, corruption, and arbitrariness.

The minister came up with such a warning in a meeting regarding teachers’ recruitment and promotion with the vice-chancellors on Monday evening at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha in the capital.

Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, senior secretary of education ministry Sohrab Hossain, University Grant Commission Chairman Dr Kazi Shahidullah attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Minister Dipu Moni said VCs are very respected persons. But many VCs are abusing their positions. Those who do not comply with the law they won’t be needed as VC anymore.

She also said some VCs are destroying higher educational institutions by abusing their position. It won’t be tolerable.

Among others, Professor Harun-Or-Rashid, VC of National University, Professor Mizanur Rahman, VC of Jagannath University, Professor Farzana Islam, VC of Jahangirnagar University, Professor Rashid Ascari, VC of Islamic University, Professor Lutful Hassan, VC of Bangladesh Agriculture University, Professor Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, VC of Begum Rokeya University were present at the meeting.
