FT ONLINE

Actor-director Gazi Rakayet accused of making an indecent proposal to her through Facebook Messenger.

A housewife lodged a case under Pornography Control Act against Rakayet with Shyampur Police Station on Thursday night.

Police is investigating the allegation.

According to the case statement, the woman received ‘obscene, unethical, suggestive and sexually stimulant’ messages that are against country’s religious and social sentiments from the ID ‘Gazi Rakayet Tuku’ on February 27.

The housewife had first posted a screenshot of the conversation in a Closed Group on Facebook.

Later it was shared publicly by an activist, Aparajita Sangita.

However, Gazi Rakayet on a facebook post, said his two Facebook accounts had been hacked.

He also claimed that some of the students who had his Facebook account password might have been behind the conversation.

Rakayet is president of TV drama makers’ organisation Directors Guild. He is also a member of TV programme producers and artists’ associations.

The three organisations started an investigation into the issue on March 10.

On March 12, Tanvir Hassan Zoha, a cyber expert, on behalf of the three organisations, said in a live video message on Facebook that Rakayet’s account had been hacked from Singapore.

Later, on March 17, Rakayet filed a case at Adabor Police Station against Sangita under Section 57 of the ICT Act, which criminalises ‘publication of fake, obscene or defaming information in electronic form’.

After filling the case the woman said, “Rakayet is pressuring my well-wishers and me to withdraw the charges.”

Meanwhile, rights activists have staged demonstration in Shahbagh on Wednesday demanding the withdrawal of the case against Sangita.
