Gaan Bangla TV chairman Taposh arrested


Police have arrested chairman of Gaan Bangla television channel Kaushik Hossain Taposh from Bhatara area in Dhaka.

Taposh was arrested on Sunday night in connection with a case filed at the Uttara East Police Station over killings during the July-August mass movement.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Uttara Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Raunak Jahan confirmed this on Monday.

Case sources state that a businessman named Ishtiaq Mahmud and others participated in the program during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 18. Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League attacked and opened fire in front of Azampur Nawab Habibullah High School under Uttara East Police Station, Sector No. 4.

Ishtiaq was shot in the stomach. He was treated at Evercare Hospital. In this, on September 29, Ishtiaq Mahmud filed a case of attempted murder at the Uttara East police station.

126 people including former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun were accused in the case. Kaushik Hossain Taposh is accused no. 9 in this case.

Taposh was sent to a court on Monday with a seven-day remand prayer.

The investigation officer of the case, Uttara East Police Station Deputy Inspector Md. Mohibullah made this petition.

The hearing will be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman.
