COVID-19 pandemicBD reports over 1 lakh recovery, 33 more death, 3,163 new cases in 24hrs


The number of Covid-19 recovered patients in the country crossed one-lakh-mark today, increasing the tally to 103,227.

The health directorate has reported 33 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,163 new cases of infection after testing 13,453 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 2,424 or 1.28 percent and the number of total infections stood at 190,057. 

Some 4,910 patients have recovered during the time. Around 54.31 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far.

"Of the dead patients, 33 are men and 10 women. Moreover, 13 of them are hailed from Dhaka, five each from Sylhet and Khulna, three from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, two from Rangpur and one from Barishal division," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin today at 2:30 pm.

"Twenty-three of them have died in different hospitals and ten at their respective homes," she added.

According to the analysis of Covid-19 victims' age groups as of today, the highest number of patients - 43.85 percent - died till date are aged sixty and above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 29.70 percent and 14.48 percent. Rest of the age groups stand under eight percent, such as- 31-40 with 7.05 percent, 21-30 with 3.14 percent, 11-20 with 1.16 percent and under ten with 0.62 percent.

The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 1,913 people who have died from Covid-19 are males and 511 are females, which are 78.92% and 21.08% respectively.

District-wise, out of 2,424 fatalities till date, 49.83 percent or 1,208 are hailed from Dhaka division, 25.81 or 626 percent from Chattogram, 5.49 percent or 133 from Khulna, 5.16 percent or 125 from Rajshahi, 4.54 percent or 110 from Sylhet, 3.67 percent or 89 from Barishal, 3.18 percent or 77 from Rangpur and 2.31 percent or 56 from Mymensingh.

Dr Nasima Said, "Some 13,988 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 13,453 were tested in 79 labs across the country. So far 966,400 samples have been tested."

The latest day's infection rate was 23.51 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 19.67 percent.

Currently, 61,643 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,050 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 336,662 people have completed their quarantine course.

The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 861 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 17,660 after 20,471 left."

As many as 16,393,348 hotline health services were given by 16,481 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 162,858 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

The virus has killed 575,525 people globally and infected 13,235,760 so far.
