COVID-19 pandemicBD's death toll crosses 3500-mark


Bangladesh today confirmed 42 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,295 new cases of infection testing 14,751 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 3,513 and the number of total infections stood at 266,498. 

A press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) made the disclosure today.

Of the dead patients, 33 were men and nine were women. Moreover, 27 of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Sylhet, three each from Khulna and Chattogram, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh, and one from Barishal division.

Thirty-nine of them have died in different hospitals and three at their respective residences.

A total of 1,117 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 153,089. 

Some 14,550 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 14,751 were tested in 86 labs across the country. So far 1,287,988 samples have been tested.

Currently, 52,878 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,023 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 406,753 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 862 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 19,730 after 39,477 left."

As many as 18,716,604 hotline health services were given by 16,498 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 65,513 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 100 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advice, that has been availed by 192,577 people till date including 4,185 in the last 24 hours.

The virus has killed 746,325 people globally and infected 20,541,757 so far.
