COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 38 more deaths, 2,198 new cases


Bangladesh logged 38 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8am.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 6,713, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the meantime, 2,198 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 469,423.

The latest day's infection rate was 13.76 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.78 percent. The death rate stands at 1.43 percent.

Also, 2,562 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 385,786 with an 82.18 percent recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, 25 were men and 13 were women. 37 of them died in different hospitals across the country while one at home.

Moreover, 30 of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions and two from Rangpur.

Meanwhile, 15,972 samples were tested in 118 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 2,804,174 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims' shows that 5,141 of the total deceased were men and 1,572 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.

At the time of writing, the virus has infected more than 64,252,744 people and close to 1,488,054 people died.
