Power ministry provides PPEs, testing kits to health ministry

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Bangladesh Independent Power Producers’ Association (BIPPA) have provided over 4,000 Personal Protection Equipments (PPEs) and 4,000 kits to the health ministry for testing coronavirus cases.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today handed over the PPEs and kits to Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Zahid Maleque at the Secretariat here, said a press release.

According to the release, PPEs have also been given to the Home Ministry while the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and the BIPPA will also provide a total of 50,000 PPEs and 50,000 kits to the health ministry.

Speaking on the occasion, Nasrul Hamid underscored the need for collective and unified efforts to combat the outbreak of the coronavirus and said the Power Division has exempted surcharge on electricity bill till April 2020 while the Energy and Mineral Resources Division has exempted surcharge on household gas bill till May 2020.

He requested all to remain aware and abide by the suggestion of the doctors.

Health Minister Dr. Zahid Maleque said there are sufficient PPEs and testing kits in the country. It will be easier to control the outbreak of the epidemic coronavirus if the potential carriers follow the instructions for quarantine, he added.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Senior Secretary Md Anisur Rahman, Power Division Secretary Dr. Sultan Ahmed, Health Service Division Secretary Md Asadul Islam and BIPPA President Imran Kabir were present on the occasion, among others.
